COMPANIONS IN CRISIS If you are a victim of domestic violence, get help. If you are afraid of leaving an abusive situation because of concern for your pet's safety, The Marin Humane Society can help by confidentially protecting and caring for your pet. Call The Marin Humane Society at (415) 883-4621, 24 hours a day/7 days a week. "Companions in Crisis" helps to remove pets/animals from dangerous situations, making sure s/he is cared for until the situation stabilizes. This helps provide peace of mind for the victim with one less thing to worry about when they are desperate to provide for their own safety and that of their children. Ultimately, it helps keep animals with the people who love them. Marin Abused Women's Services (MAWS) volunteers staff their hotlines 24 hours a day. Thirty percent of calls to the hotlines are from women in life-threatening situations. MAWS English-speaking hotline is (415) 924-6616, and the Spanish hotline is (415) 924-3456. Outside of Marin, call (800) 799-SAFE for a domestic violence program near you. MAWS operates a men's hotline, managed by trained male volunteers who can help to deter men from engaging in violence. If you are a man and feel like violence is taking over your life, please call the MAWS Men's Program at (415) 924-1070 for help.
