MICHAEL VICK FOUND JESUS…CAN HE FIND BIN LADEN?

In judges frock is Australian Shepherd, Hero and his guardian Rick T., dressed as Michael Vick. Halloween costume first prize winner Hero threw the book and gavel at Vick and hopes the presiding “referee” will do the same, Judge Judy style.

I’m not going to let up on Michael Vick. Neither will PETA and other animal rights advocacy groups as well as millions and millions of compassionate animal lovers in the United States and throughout the world.

I believe in forgiveness but this depends on the malice and severity of one’s actions. My forgiveness is dependant upon one’s sincere expression of remorse, a profound comprehension of the effects of their actions as well as restitution, which never equals the loss.

Michael Vick plead guilty to brutally killing eight dogs, cruelty to an additional fifty-two dogs, interstate gambling for the purpose of dog- fighting and a host of other charges.

A week earlier, Vick told the world he was innocent and that he would clear his name in court. What he didn’t know at the time was that the consequences of his actions were about to bite this quarterback in his “tight-end”.

His co-defendants ratted on him and they did so with plenty of incriminating evidence. So Vick had no choice but to plead guilty and has already begun serving prison time, although he has not yet been formally sentenced.

In one mere week, Vick went from total innocence to absolute guilt and over that seven days period, he found Jesus and apologized for his actions.
I’m Jewish, but knowing what I know about Jesus, forgiveness and all, he would probably rather not be “found” by the likes of Michael Vick. Most of us did not buy Vick’s penitence, finding it poorly rehearsed and utterly insincere.

Vick, through his attorneys and friends, told us that dog fighting is common in the south and that Vick should not be black-listed because he partook in the “sport” of dog fighting. I don’t care if you were raised in the Bowery, the Bayou or Beverly Hills - if your IQ exceeds your age, you (should) know better!

Bad Newz Kennel’s, co-owned and operated by Vick, purchased several “pit bull” puppies from Oscar Allen, another co-defendant. Allen acknowledges that he gave members of Bad Newz Kennels, comprised of Vick, Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor, advice on the operation of a dog-fighting kennel and attended dogfights at Vick's rural Virginia home in Surry County. Allen also stated that he was present in April, 2007 when Vick, Peace and Phillips tested dogs to determine if they would be good fighters. The dogs that did not test well were executed.

I seethe with venom as I write this. Dog-fighting and other animal-fighting is happening as I write and as you read. Michael Vick’s actions have brought the awful reality of animal-fighting to the forefront but we’re not even close to eradicating this savage “sport”. Stricter laws, stiffer jail sentences and sensitivity training are in order to help stave off this pandemic problem.

We are a powerful group of people – compassionate Americans who deeply love animals and we genuinely feel heartache when we hear about any kind of animal abuse.

So what can you do? Meet with your local political constituents first and work your way up. Organize a strong group of like-minded people who can help make a difference in/with numbers. Never be afraid to stand up, speak up and do what’s right to help animals and others in need. Karma knows where you live and what goes around does indeed come around.
